The best part is that the dish is incredibly versatile and goes along with virtually anything. That’s why today, we’re going to show you how to make a Cheesy Bacon Frittata, so that you can bring a bit of delicious Italian flavor to your breakfast.
A Frittata in its Simplest Form
Let’s start by taking a look at what is frittata in its most basic form. We can break this dish down into two main components: a savory egg base and the ingredients you choose to fill it with. As far as the egg base is concerned, you’ll need about 6 large eggs, 2/3 cup of whole milk, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. This mixture should be beaten together until it’s smooth.
Now that you have your egg base ready, it’s time to fill it with the delicious ingredients that will make your frittata come to life. This is where the fun begins, as you can fill your frittata with practically anything you like. Meats, cheeses, vegetables and other ingredients are all great options, so use your imagination and let your creativity flow.
For this frittata recipe, we will be using bacon, cheddar cheese and chives. The result is something truly delightful that everyone can enjoy.
Getting the Frittata Ready
Now that you have your ingredients ready, it’s time to get started cooking. To begin, preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9-inch oven-safe skillet or baking dish; this will serve as the container for your frittata.
Next, cook your bacon until it has reached your desired level of crispiness. This should take about 6 minutes over medium heat. Once cooked, transfer the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels in order to drain any excess grease.
Preparing the Frittata
Once the bacon is done, it’s time to focus on the frittata itself. Begin by adding a tablespoon of butter to the same skillet you cooked the bacon in. When the butter is melted and bubbling, reduce the heat to low and add the beaten egg base to the pan.
As the egg base starts to cook, crumble the bacon into small pieces and sprinkle it all over the top of the eggs. You can also add any other desired ingredients, such as cheddar cheese and chives. When all the ingredients have been added in, gently stir the frittata and then let it continue to cook for about 10 minutes.
Cooking the Frittata
Once the bottom side of the frittata has cooked, it’s time to move it to the oven. Carefully transfer the skillet to the oven and let the frittata continue to cook for 15 minutes. When the 15 minutes have passed, remove the skillet from the oven, and the frittata should be golden and fluffy.
